yard sale decorating: baby boy's nursery to little boy's room

i love the transition it has made from our baby boy's nursery to a fun room for him to enjoy.  there is so much love in this little room & i just can't get enough of it!  rather than repeat myself, i'll only point out the new additions:

yard sale decorating: nursery edition

our son's nursery is proof positive that with a lot of love & a little searching, you don't have to spend a lot of money to create a unique space you love.  the key was patience - we didn't run out & buy anything, we collected key pieces over the course of my pregnancy.  and as we did, the room came together as the perfect space for our son.

chalk board:  mommy's as a little girl, repainted with a new chalk surface & trim
dresser:  $20, yard sale, repainted & lined
blanket:  baby shower gift from missy (hand-made with love, just for you!)

go pack!!!

holden knows who to pull for!

baby boy's ncsu tee:  $0.50, consignment sale
baby boy's plaid shorts:  $0.50-$1 (can't remember, which!), consignment sale

baby boy in blue

& speaking of well dressed little boys...

baby boy's jon jon:  samara, consignment sale, $2
baby boy's sandals:  faded glory, consignment sale, $1

cute little jon jons

CONFESSION:  i sometimes buy baby clothes for babies that only currently exist in my heart - when they're just TOO CUTE to pass up!  case in point below.  but in my defense, as any die-hard jon jon lover will tell you, when you find unique jon jons (especially vintage... the cutest of the cute!), you've got to snatch those bad boys up!  ...especially at these prices.  just ask holden... being an impeccably dressed little guy doesn't happen shopping the racks at belk.  or carter's.  not even necessarily at boutiques.  & it definitely doesn't happen shopping at target!  it takes lots of hunting & searching, in lots of different places!  some days finding absolutely nothing & some days hitting the jack pot.  but mostly, it requires having an eye for the future.  so i'm lovingly tucking these little cuties away for our next little angel... which we're convinced will be another little boy!

jon jons:  $0.75 each, consignment sale

daddy & me

baby boy's t-shirt:  $1.12, target**
baby boy's shorts:  $1, yard sale
hub's t-shirt:  $5, old navy**
hub's shorts:  nike, $0.34***, yard sale (& his very favorite shorts now!)

i'm loving baby boy's mis-matched / color coordinated outfit here!

** there are some things that i prefer to buy new - t-shirts usually fall into that category.  as a general rule, i just don't think they wash up well enough to buy second-hand.  that's not to say that you won't occasionally come across a second-hand one that is in like new condition!  but i try to keep my eyes open for clearance t-shirts for holden & stock up on jason's when old navy puts them on sale for $5 each.
*** weird price i know... but the items were 3/$1!

yes, you read that correctly, $3!!!

comfy cozy on the cheap

baby boy's pjs*:  yardsale, $0.25

going green

dress:  jones new york, $1, yard sale
camisole:  forever 21, $2.50
sandals:  rack room shoes, $15

i'm not a huge fan of layering camisoles under v-necks, but sometimes its necessary with extremely low cuts & these days, even if i'm comfortable with the cut, i find i have to wear a camisole to hide my nursing bras, which seem to come up much higher than my normal bras.

sleeping in style

baby boy's sleeper:  pepper toes*, $4, consignment store

*i fell in love with this adorable boutique pepper toes sleeper.  soft as could be & buttoned up the back.  i looked high and low for others online, but it wasn't to be.  if you ever see one, by all means, grab it!

park safari

baby boy's hat:  $0.25, yardsale
baby boy's onesie:  little sprouts*, $1.98, target

*i love little sprouts, an organic cotton line carried by target.  i haven't seen anything by them at target lately, but i'm keeping my eyes open.  i picked up this onesie & matching pants for holden in several different colors and sizes when they were on clearance last year.  i loved the bright colors, the extra coverage the onesies had in the bottom area, they washed up great AND they were organic cotton!

mickey's biggest fan

baby boy's mickey romper:  $1, yardsale

frugal family fashion

my dress:  motherhood maternity*, $1, yard sale
hubby's shirt:  nautica, hand me down
baby boy's romper:  ralph lauren, $3, yard sale
baby boy's tennis shoes (brand new!):  $1, yard sale

*my personal opinion regarding maternity clothes... i know a lot of moms who can't stand the sight of maternity clothes once baby arrives, but i've always been of the mindset flaunt it if you've got it & if you don't?  for heavens sake, cover it up!  so with that in mind, i have a couple of maternity pieces that i still wear because: 1) you can't tell they're maternity, 2) these particular pieces just so happen to be flattering as can be! & 3) for the time being, there's still a lot that needs to be covered up!  ;)

best $1.50 ever spent

i picked up this dress at a yardsale for $1.50 & i'm seriously obsessed with it.  it's all i can do not to wear it every day!  frugal, fun & forgiving... now that's my kind of dress!

dress:  $1.50, yardsale
